Amniotic fluid is a kind of fluid that is present in the placenta of healthy newborns. The placenta is part of the uterine wall in a pregnant woman that surrounds the fetus. The fetus is attached to the mother via the umbilical cord, and the placenta helps in the nourishment of the fetus and the elimination of waste. The amniotic membrane is the innermost layer of the placenta. It is filled with amniotic fluid that helps cushion the fetus and facilitates the mother's exchange of nutrients.
The amniotic fluid or placental matrix is a substance that is taken from the placenta of newborn babies. This substance can be used to treat damaged joints, control inflammation and pain, replace damaged tissue, initiate natural regeneration, and reduce scar tissue formation.
The amniotic or placental matrix consists of a chorion frondosum, which develops from the fetal blastocyst. The material component called decidua basalis develops from the mother's uterine tissue. The development of the placenta starts after fertilization and implantation. The fluid contains no stem cells, through its regenerative capabilities are similar to it. Additionally, the amniotic fluid contains collagen and extracellular matrix protein.
As the placental matrix has already been collected from the discarded or donated placenta of the newborn babies and stored, it is ready for use on the patient. In this therapy, a small amount of placental tissue matrix is injected into the patient to treat the damaged joint, spine, or wound. Ultrasound or fluoroscopy is used to precisely locate the exact area of the injury. This placental tissue matrix therapy takes advantage of the body's ability to repair itself.
Usually, the healing and repair process takes about three to four months to achieve the maximum benefit. In most patients, the improvement starts to reflect within the first two weeks of treatment.
